The climate, generally speaking
Catania is a year-round destination, but the seasons aren't all the same. In the summer months (July and August), average temperatures are higher and long walks become more tiring; many businesses close for the mid-August holidays, and the university, which drives much of city life, generally sits empty for the summer break. As always with climate, conditions can vary from year to year.
Giovanni's tip In Giovanni's opinion, the best time to experience Catania is from October to May: that's when the city feels most alive to him, with tourists, university students and locals mixing in the same streets, bars and evenings. Mild weather, full venues and an energy that, in his experience, summer dampens a little. It remains a personal opinion, though: in summer Catania offers a different atmosphere, not necessarily a worse one.
