The Catanese ritual
One of Catania's most authentic and lesser-known symbols is the kiosk: small historic stands, often family-run for generations, scattered along Via Etnea, Corso Italia and near Piazza Iolanda, serving cold drinks, granite and above all seltz al limone.
Seltz al limone is the drink of the city: sparkling water from a siphon, freshly squeezed lemon juice and, to taste, a pinch of salt or a splash of mint syrup, served in a classic glass tumbler. It costs little more than a euro and is as refreshing as it gets on a hot summer day — a true Catanese ritual, worth trying at least once while strolling through the city.
